I posit that, at the very least, a national experiment be undertaken wherein the elimination of many of the tax levies on the aforesaid list occurs for some decent interval so we can come to an answer regarding the question of whether such taxes are justified.

Ask Yourself...
Why do we have all the taxes listed at the link? Are they necessary or even advised? I realize the nation is far more populated then it was one hundred years ago, and substantially more complex, broadly speaking, than a century ago, but how much government-since that is what all these taxes go to support-do we need? I emphasize the word need because if we don't require them they should be eliminated. Perhaps another way to look at the problem is to ask ourselves how much tax payer supported government benefits those it is meant to support, namely the citizenry, (and in many cases non citizens) versus simply supporting the economic and financial maintenance of those who are employed by the government irrespective of the cost, broadly defined, to the rest of the nation's citizenry.

Ah yes, but don't forget....
think how many flesh and blood PEOPLE are employed but that tottering edifice of big government ?
Do you want to aggravate unemployment ?
(I agree with you, but I think that we need to seriously reconsider what we consider to be VALUABLE in our society, and what is worth WORKING FOR.)
I am well aware that government "employs" many people. I've seen a number of them in their employ and it's not a pretty sight. So, while I would prefer not to add to the unemployment rolls, there is, in my view, much to be gained by massively shrinking Leviathan.
In the meantime, a national reassessment of what is valuable and worth working for would be worthwhile. Having said that, everyday people decide those matters, or so it seems to me.
And I expect that, going forward, some very interesting-perhaps even earth shaking-decisions to be made.
There's a lot WORTH working for that doesn't necessarily NEED to be PAID FOR.
That depends on us, and JUST HOW ENSLAVED WE ALLOW OURSELVES TO BECOME TO THE IDOL OF MAMMON.
Personally, I like MY idols to be more, um, GRACEFUL than Mammon.
Like that word "worthwhile". Interesting.
I'm not sure we need more NATIONAL reassessments.
I think indeed that we need more INDIVIDUAL reassessments.
You missed my last response on your last thread.
(Gentle nudge there.) Wouldn't want you to pass by my subversion of William for the cause.
