Seeing is believing.

Some number of years ago I predicted that The Catholic Church was in a terminal state of decline. I think the trend has been pretty clear. Here's some more evidence of the well deserved fall of The Vatican.

I was really surprised by that, Edwardo. Those roots go WAY back between the two.

I am sure that the situation in Ireland is extremely complex, and goes way beyond general considerations about the viability of the Catholic Church in our modern world...

I'm glad you're sure, Debra, though I'm quite sure I don't know why you're sure.

Since one good turn deserves another, I thought you would like to know that two days ago, one of the NORMALEST people on my loony forum (with a job, unlike me...) told me that she has taken the Carmel profession of vows for "laïcs", people who are not in the orders.
The Catholic Church has an enormous, and extremely varied number of institutions and orders.
Lots and lots of interest in them right now, PARTICULARLY NOW THAT FILTHY LUCRE AND WORK FOR SALVATION have seriously disenchanted so many people...
But you won't SEE ALL THIS if you listen to the mainstream media, and it is probably OUTSIDE OF THE MEDIA anyway...

When I speak of The Catholic Church and its decline, I'm definitely speaking of the Vatican and all that operates within its purview.

In the meantime, as per your story,
there are a lot of folks out there who will readily choose to impose upon themselves someone else's way of living in the world and ordering the data.

As long as there are people, no Church, broadly defined, will likely ever completely go the way of the dodo bird. Now, if you'll please excuse me I have to run out and attend my weekly Zoroastrian service.

Considering that I came to France over thirty years ago in search of the Catholic Church, VATICAN ET AL, I am fervently rooting for it amidst all the cudgelling that it is receiving (even from well intentioned Catholics, by the way...) and I'm not even.. Catholic.
Have fun at your service.
As long as they don't EAT PEOPLE, it will be good, wholesome and CLEAN FUN, right ?
I am going to give a poetry reading of my stuff at a local English bookstore doubling as a salon de thé.
Neat, huh ?

In search of the Catholic Church? In France? You could have gone to Chicago, New York, Rio, Rome, etc. etc. Why the land of the croissant? Congratulations on your poetry reading.

"Fille aînée de l'Eglise". Eldest daughter of the Church = France.
Outside of the Enlightenment laboratory.
France was the crucible for the ideas that led to the creation of the (now dis)united states, but the country itself STILL bears the indelible mark of the... MONARCHY... unlike the U.S.
The U.S., I predict, is negotiating/ (has negotiated ?) the transition from republic to empire, without ever passing through the monarchy... GO. (Actually, my leanings go toward the FEUDAL MONARCHY.)
Remember how I used to say on SuddenDebt that I was one of the people who preferred to go down with the ship than be on the torpedoing side ?
I haven't changed...

Interesting comments regarding your choice of France. The U.S. empire, such as it was, reached its apex following World War II when Europe immolated itself and left a massive power vacuum that was filled by the last man, make that man-child, standing.

But, make no mistake, whatever imperial initiatives the U.S. is engaged in (here at home) are acts of desperation befitting a collapsing super power. The U.S. hegemony is/was the result of having its currency function as the transactional medium for oil. When that goes, and it's going as we speak, there won't be money to pay those who damn the torpedoes.

Of course, cornered animals are always quite dangerous.

Very very much agree with your last sentence...

That's a thought now...
"woman the torpedos, mate".
How does that sound ?
Not too keen, huh ?

Edwardo said...

Torpedo the woman, perhaps.

Check out Toby's last post. FUNNY. An antidote to... DISASTER PORN.
And by the way, what are YOU doing with YOUR writing these days ?
